Forest

of the Roots

The Roots Forest, opened in summer 2023, was created on an area affected by storm Vaia in 2018.
It consists of the planting of about 2,500 trees, each dedicated to families who emigrated from Tretino to Brazil in the late 19th century.
This project represents a true return to the origins and pays tribute to the Tretino emigrants, keeping alive the link with their Tretino roots and celebrating the cultural heritage and family history of a community that has kept strong emotional connections with their places of origin.

Root forest

The Forest of Roots, opened in summer 2023, stands on an area devastated in 2018 by storm Vaia and consists of the planting of about 2,500 trees dedicated by name to families who left for Brazil from Vigolana in the late 19th century.
This
return to the origins celebrates the historical memory of all Trentino people who emigrated to Brazil and around the world, but who still maintain strong ties to their cultural heritage and the roots Trentino mountains.
Among the species planted are larches, birches, rowan trees, oaks, spruces and maples, whose seeds were grown by school children to symbolize the importance of passing on the
cultural identity and the family history to new generations, thus creating an emotional connection between the past and the future.

How to find your roots

The registry service of the Municipality of Alt Della Vigolana only keeps registry certificates from 1924 onward.

The Diocesan Archives of Trent preserves in digital format all registry certificates kept by parishes throughout Trentino until 1924.
